I'm taking a break from streaming Package Resolved.

When I started working on Package Resolved for Playdate, I had two simple goals in mind: learn the Playdate SDK, and livestream the development process on YouTube. When I started streaming this year, I got relatively positive reception. Over time, however, reception has been on the decline, and developing the project wasn't as fun as it used to be.

I envisioned that this project would take no more than a couple months, and I'd have my first Playdate title published by no later than July. Fast forward to the beginning of August, and we've only completed a small sliver of the game. Last week, we had just finished adding in support for loading multiple levels, and there's a lot more to work on, such as showing interstitial screens between levels, properly displaying a box count, and adding a title screen.

Likewise, the energy for streaming development of this game has been on the decline alongside the viewership. I don't particularly care for the analytics, but I can read the room and know that, in its current state, watching this game get made is getting rather boring. Keep in mind the past month had been focusing on parsing reading a configuration file. Yikes!

Suffice to say, this isn't the easiest decision to make, but I'm going to put Package Resolved on the back burner for now, at least streaming wise. I might try to continue developing the game offline, but I won't be streaming any of it. This should allow me to get the game finished at a faster rate, and I won't be forcefully timeboxed for an hour each week. On top of that, it means I can dedicate time to streaming more interesting projects, such as Indexing Your Heart.

I apologize to those who have subscribed to my channel specifically for Playdate game development content; I hope to stream more Playdate stuff in the future with more interesting projects. With that in mind, I plan to launch an Itch.io page for the game once I finish up a couple things offline, so be sure to keep your eyes peeled for that.

*Author's Note: This decision does not affect Indexing Your Heart streams.
