The end of the road for Indexing Your Heart

This is a re-post of the original devlog from the Indexing Your Heart page on Itch.

I've been thinking a bit about Indexing Your Heart over the past few months and how it ties in to my other projects. It's been such a long while since I've made any progress on it, and I've been stuck trying to find ways to make breakthroughs.

The reality is that I've been so busy with other things, and I've simply burned out on this project. Making a Witness-like that centers around a specific conlang is tricky, especially with a conlang as complex as [ʔaʃaʃat]. Likewise, I feel I've went about this particular game the wrong way, trying to plan top-down instead of bottom-up like I've done for my other projects like Alidade, Unscripted, and (currently) Hands of Glass.

So, it's with a heavy heart that I announce that, as of today, I am ceasing development of Indexing Your Heart. This page will remain up for archival purposes, and the game's source code will remain available on my Git forge at https://source.marquiskurt.net/Indexing-Your-Heart. However, I will not be working on anything new within the scope of this project. As for the original website, I'll work on porting over all the blog posts to here so that they remain available, as I will not be renewing the indexingyourhe.art domain. Within the coming weeks, the Indexing You Heart website will be shut down, and Itch.io will be the remaining place for information.

While this may be the end for this project, all is not lost. Chelsea's story along with the mysterious obelisk's has yet to be told, and I'm certain they will appear in other titles like Codename Babylon (maybe even Hands of Glass). And what I've learned from making this game is already being applied with Hands of Glass.

I'd like to thank everyone that's helped me on this journey as I worked on this project: supporters, VAs, playtesters, and artists alike.
