Returning to the core - my 2024 goals

When things are left to interpretation, goals and ideas get muddied, and it’s difficult to determine whether I’ve made any real progress outside the concrete ideas I had. This year, I want to return to my core and set some tangible goals I’d like to attain.

By the time I managed to sit down and open a new file so that I could write my goals for this year, I realize that the general “broad goals”/open themes have put me in a situation where I’m not being all that realistic with myself. When things are left to interpretation, goals and ideas get muddied, and it’s difficult to determine whether I’ve made any real progress outside the concrete ideas I had.

This year, I want to return to my core and set some tangible goals I’d like to attain, which include:

  • Learning the Playdate SDK and making some games for the Playdate. This cute little console that Panic created with Teenage Engineering has got me hooked, considering its analog feeling. I’d like to expand my horizons beyond iOS and create some fun things.
  • Setting healthier boundaries. My relationship with the Fediverse has buckled, and I realize that it wasn’t the place it used to be. Perhaps this pertains to social media as a whole, but I need to reset my boundaries and make sure my mental health isn’t at stake as a result.
  • Keep making Indexing Your Heart. Fedigardens is in a weird place right now, but I can at least take comfort in knowing that Indexing Your Heart is shaping up. After gathering some feedback, I’d very much like to keep the project going. Maybe even port it to the Playdate, if I can figure out a good control scheme...
