My goals for 2026

With how disastrous 2025 turned out to be, it’s a tad difficult to think ahead for what I really want to do for 2026. Sure, I have some tangible goals I’d like to accomplish as a continuation of what I started in 2025, but outside those smaller things, the road for 2026 looks completely blank, and I can’t see beyond a couple of meters. Yet, there’s a small phrase that seems to really click for me as a theme right now: “persist and flourish.”

When I think about the things I want to do this year, it summarizes into “continue working on this thing and make it good.” For example, I still have lots of ideas for Alidade and how I want to improve the app over time. PencilKit support, improved search capabilities, performance improvements with CubiomesKit... there’s much to think about with it. Likewise, I started working on Codename Babylon a couple of months ago, venturing into the world of 3D video games from scratch. I feel committed to working on this project and getting it out of the “tech demo scene” and into the playable game I want to make.

I realize that this can also extend to my life, generally speaking. With how turbulent the world is right now, it feels harder than ever to live in it. But I want to persist, hold steady, and flourish. I want to focus a bit more on community and local efforts, fostering connections and making meaningful contributions, regardless of scale. I want to beat the odds and flourish in the environment that expects me to fail spectacularly. A rather tall ask, but I think I can make it work; I want to make it work.

So, I suppose this is it: “persist and flourish.” Beat the odds, thrive, and keep doing what I do. This might not mean anything significant, but I can work with this goal.
